Karen Clark - The Feel Good Guide - SPOTLIGHT - Savvy Entrepreneur

Rarely does the moment present itself where you can be exposed to true inspiration. When given the opportunity, embrace it and soak up the knowledge that is given to you. This was my experience during the Savvy Entrepreneur Spotlight with Karen Clark of Karen Clark Fitness.

Karen’s Story

Karen, originally from Scotland (hence the accent), moved to Rockwood, Canada with her husband to be closer to his family. As a personal trainer, Karen says she, “loves working with women and helping them feel good”. She understands the feeling of not being fit and healthy, and she wanted to do something about it.

Her business began with just a few clients as Karen learned to perfect her skills. She was excited about the steady growth and began to prepare for the future when she suddenly took ill for no apparent reason. Karen recalls the feelings of being physically exhausted, so much so that she could barely get out of bed. After a brief recovery, Karen relapsed eight months later with the same issues, coupled with problems with her vision. She saw countless doctors and specialists, none of whom could give her a clear diagnosis.

The Transitional Moment

After months of suffering, Karen made the decision that she was not going to wait on doctors and specialists to fix her, she was going to fix herself. She remarked on the moment when she “began to read books on having a positive mindset, and stopped focusing on the things she couldn’t do, and focused on the things she could do”.

Remarkably, Karen was able to translate this philosophy into her business. “We keep thinking that someone is going to come along and fix my business”, says Karen. However, as she sees it, it is all of the small things that we do for ourselves that impact our businesses that we should be focused on.

Now fully recovered, the experience that Karen dealt with lead her to upscale her business so that she could reach more women. Karen teaches women how to listen to their bodies, something everyone should be doing, but that often seems difficult for entrepreneurs.

How Self-Care Promotes Production

Karen works with a lot of business owners and entrepreneurs. Many now understand that taking that time out for themselves doesn’t negatively impact their business. In fact, the healthier they are, the more energy they have resulting in a positive impact on their business.

Changing her mindset on wellness and fitness was the first step for Karen to begin mending her body. This is why it is the first step in her FREE eBook, “The Feel Good Guide”, which is conveniently available on her website www.karenclarkfitness.com. The additional six steps in Karen’s eBook include Hydration, Sleep and Relaxation, Stress Management, Food is Fuel, Get Moving, and Support & Accountability. There is even a bonus section which helps the reader understand why all these topics are important.

“Some people just diet and exercise and do not focus on these other key areas”, says Karen. For example, workouts should not feel like a punishment, something that Karen covers in her eBook.

Finding What Works For You

Karen does not pretend to have every answer, nor does she profess to be perfect. She can only offer the best of her knowledge and support to her clients. Like all entrepreneurs, she has to overcome obstacles, support her family, and find the happy balance between managing a business and staying physically and mentally fit. She always tried to focus on moving forward, and to minimize the pressure she puts on herself.

For her final words, Karen suggests that everyone take some time each and every day to walk. Simple as it may sound, walking helps the body to de-stress while boosting up energy levels. When you return from your walk, you often feel renewed and able to take on the world.

Karen urges entrepreneurs to, “not let your business completely overtake your life”. Celebrate the small successes, take time for yourself, and listen to your body.
