The Lesson Learned from Kindest Rejection Ever in Email Marketing

Email Marketing - Rules of Engagement - Convert2Customer Workshop

So when everyone joined our little family over at Savvy Entrepreneur, I promised to always be 100% authentic. Well, today I have an opportunity to share a bit with you about the “kindest rejection” I’ve received and what I learned from it.

.
Most of us, if not all, work really hard to build a community for our businesses via social media, email, blogging, podcasting, videos, networking events, etc.  And if you are putting in the work, you know the pain that comes with that little notification of rejection “Unsubscribe“!!! <insert cry emoji>.
.
The pain of it all… the contacts lost into the abyss, with whom you may never cross paths again.
.
When someone unsubscribes from your list, it can be better for you brand, your business and your pockets (if you pay per subscriber). You want a list that is full of engaged subscribers. The truth is that if they unsubscribe, we were not providing something… and that is often the hard part, figuring out what the heck that “something” is.  We can get emotional about it, or we can figure it out.
.

 .
To get to the point, this morning I felt the pain, the awful unsubscribe. Yes, there were tons of notifications flowing in… subscribers, people enrolling in the Rapid Results Workshop, people joining the Savvy Entrepreneur Email and Private Facebook Group. But what caught my eye and my heart was the alert titled “unsubscribe“.
.
That was until I read the note attached.
.
Segmentation of Email Marketing Lists
.
Not only was this the kindest unsubscribe note EVER!!!!  But it was a reminder of some key elements that I’ve been overlooking recently while communicating with our community.
.
Be Authentic!
.
Personalization!
.
Segmentation!
.
I am guilty!  Recently, with the upcoming baby (only days left), I really wanted to provide a valuable tool to our community before I fade into maternity leave.  With my messaging, I offered the same opportunities to our community, outside of Founding Members, without keeping in mind these 3 rules of engagement.
.
While all of us that have subscribed or joined Savvy Entrepreneur or the Convert2Customers Series, are traveling the same success path in our businesses, we have different needs.  Those who joined Savvy Entrepreneur, may not want to hear or need information in reference to the Convert2Customers Series.  And those who are a part of the Convert2Customers Series, may not care to receive communication about Savvy Entrepreneur.

So what does this mean for you, moving forward?
#1 Keep in mind the 3 rules of engagement while building your communities: Be Authentic, Personalization and Segmentation.  This is the ONLY way to truly build relationships with your audience.
#2 I will not mix the two groups.  Do not get me wrong, we have so much crossover that it is hard to keep track!  But I have the proper tools in place to do so.  I just need to slow down, not be so excited to share EVERYTHING with all of you, and practice what I preach.
So today is the day, if you want to be a part of the Savvy Entrepreneur community, you have two options:
Savvy Entrepreneur Private Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/savvyentreprenuer/
Join Savvy Entrepreneur Community: www.SavvyEntrepreneur.co
Download the Convert2Customers Checklist: www.Convert2CustomersChecklist.com
Enroll in the Rapid Results Workshop: www.Convert2CustomersWorkshop.com
If you are signed up for one, that does not necessarily mean you will get the benefit of the other.
.
See you on the other side 😀
