Today’s consumer is constantly on the move and is heavily reliant on smartphones and tablets to survive. In fact, there is an application for almost anything in today’s society. But how do you make sure your app reaches the right people? How do you market an app to ensure its success? Although the potential for traffic is high, market saturation means it’s tough to stand out. There are too many rivals and not enough space, yet mobile devices are the keys to modern marketing. There is no secret to app success, but there are some tips to put you on the right path.

Focus On The Product

One of the most successful apps in recent history is Angry Birds,  an addictive game which started a new craze and went viral. The game app provides value to millions of people. Worth can be quantified in a variety of ways – as people value many different things in their lives. When designing an app, concentrate on the product and what it has to offer. More importantly, focus on a particular audience and what they might need. If it isn’t entertaining, then it should solve a problem or improve on another service. Also, quality graphics are mandatory.

Market Like A Madman

You already know the competition is stiff, so there is no reason to rest on your laurels. Be proactive and get out into the digital world and raise awareness of the app. After all, it won’t sell itself. Thankfully, your online presence should make advertising easy. For instance, create pop-ups which inform traffic about the new application. Or, let them know how straightforward it is to use the app as opposed to the desktop version. Don’t forget in-app marketing too. An “about our app” section should explain how and why it’s the only application to use. Cross-platform advertising is a wise move also.

There are two major players in the app game: Apple and Android. Apple does an amazing job at marketing that people think it’s the only system worth investing in. Please don’t fall into the trap. On average, there are more Android users in the world than Apple ones. So, not making the app available on Google Play is a massive error in judgment. In fact, omitting Windows Apps is a mistake too. Increase the chances of a download by spreading the word across different platforms.

Be Free

This is a reference to the app, not your spirit. As soon as customers see $0.99, they will think twice. It may be less than $1, but there’s a huge difference between that and $0. Anyway, there are too many free apps for you to try and make money from downloads. The best course of action is to focus on bringing people to the application first and then trying to monetize with in-app purchases.
