Renovation can be costly. You may have to seek out planning permission from a leaseholder. However, it could be what you need to make your business premises a better work environment. Here are just five good reasons to consider renovating your business premises.
It looks old and tired
Old-fashioned décor and signs of damage could reflect badly on your brand. This could be particularly damaging to your reputation as clients visit your premises. Renovating could be a chance to revamp and restore the building. Consider exterior changes such as replacing old signage or repairing the roof. Also, consider interior alterations such as replacing worn carpets and possibly adding new paint to the walls. Renovation may not always be needed and specialist cleaning services may be a cheaper option in certain cases.
There’s not enough natural light
A dimly lit work environment could make your premises appear dull and depressing. It could also be straining you and your employees’ eyes. Try using artificial lighting and a bright paint scheme to lighten things up. Installing extra windows could be a more effective way of lighting the place up. Natural light is also more likely to cheer up you and your employees than artificial light.
The layout is impractical
It’s possible that the layout may need changing. There may be too many closed-off rooms, which could be affecting communication in an office environment. Going open plan could help your business. If you own a restaurant, there could be a way of converting extra space or extending your property to allow room for more diners. Such improvements could help to aid productivity and even generate more business.
The building isn’t energy-efficient
Renovation could also make your business premises more energy-efficient. Insulation could be needed for lowering your heating bills in the winter. Meanwhile, rooms that need to be kept cool could benefit from installing cold room panels to limit the use of electric cooling. You may even be able to install solar panels to the roof of your business property in order to generate your own electricity.
Health and safety is at risk
Health and safety are paramount for businesses. It’s possible that your company may not meet legal requirements – for example, not having a suitable fire escape when you have employees could be an issue that you need to address urgently. You may also want to check for hazardous substances in the walls. The likes of asbestos and lead paint are two construction materials that could cause a health risk to you and your employees – such materials have since been banned and whilst there are no legal requirements to remove them, doing so could put you and your workforce at ease.
