It can be rewarding to be a teacher, but it would be a lie to say it’s stress-free. Trying to make a group of twenty-plus children do anything would be difficult. But getting them to learn? It can feel like a constant uphill battle, and it’s no wonder that many teachers think about changing their jobs after a few years. One thing that stops educators changing their profession is that they think they can be a teacher or nothing at all. This is not the case. There are many freelance jobs that are suitable for teachers once they leave the classroom! We take a look at a few below.
Private Classes
You might love teaching, but not enjoy all the madness of the classroom or the additional work you have to do for your school. If this is the case, then take a look at teaching private classes. You’ll be able to exercise your love of teaching, and in a deeper way, too. Working with one student can be very rewarding, as you’re able to teach them better and see their progress in a closer way. Oh, and it can pay better than a regular teaching gig, too.
In a Corporate Environment
You’ve worked in the educational system. Why not work in the corporate sector for a while? For starters, you’ll almost certainly be paid more, and will also most likely have less occupational stress to contend with. Many companies employ in-house educators, especially larger companies. They’re used to bring new employees up to speed on how things should be done, and also to teach current employees about new practices, software, and so on. If you don’t want to work in just one office, you can also go freelance, and hop from company to company.
Providing Materials
Some teachers find that, while they love the subject, they don’t really enjoy the “standing up in front of kids and making them learn” side of teaching. If this is the case, then why not look at teaching the next generation in a less direct way? Writing textbooks and other learning materials will allow you to immerse yourself in the subject of your choosing, in a less stressful environment. Once you’ve finished writing, you can work with a company like MarketingWorks Inc., and look at getting your texts into schools. You’ll still be involved in the educational system, just in a different role.
Other Learning Institutions
Schools aren’t the only educational buildings where educators can work. There are also those places in the city, called museums! This is a good option for a couple of reasons. First, you’ll be able to dive into a subject, without worrying about making people pass a test. Second, you’ll also be able to teach, if you want to, by leading groups on tours. You’ll also be shift gears just a little bit, and focus your energies on developing more creative and engaging learning experiences for visitors, based on what you figured out worked (and what didn’t) during your time as a teacher.
