6 Secrets Of Managing A Successful Boutique Hotel

Opening a hotel is something that many people consider. Even those of us with nothing more than a few spare bedrooms in our homes might wonder if we could turn them into a trendy b&b. There’s something about hotels that scream glamour. When we visit our favorite hotels, we’re looked after and pampered. And while we have everything we need to relax, we never stop to think about the secrets of managing a hotel.

Opening a huge hotel with hundreds of rooms and all of the best facilities might be out of the question. It’ll certainly take a lot more start-up cash, resources and experience to even get going. But, what about a small boutique hotel or inn? Something with personality and style? A smaller space that gives you a chance to offer your guests something different and fully cater to their needs, helping them every day? This, you could do. Here are some tips to help you to make your boutique hotel successful.

Learn

Running a hotel, even a smaller and more personal hotel, isn’t the same as having people over to stay at your house. It’s a business, and there is a lot to learn. You need to learn about things like looking after your guests and keeping them happy. But, also skills like accounting and health and safety. The best way to do this is by studying at a Swiss hotel management school. You might also want to get some experience of working in a hotel to help you prepare and to make sure you know what you are getting yourself in for.

Cater for A Wide Audience

Many hotels cater to a specific market. Some, luxury hotels cater only to the rich and famous. Others focus on offering a basic range, ideal for travelers and emergencies. If you want to appeal to everyone, offer rooms suitable for all. You could have some hotel-style rooms for backpackers and students looking for something convenient, but a little different. Then, add some more luxurious rooms for those that want a bit of glamour.

Offer More

Hotels are everywhere. As the world changes and develops, people still need somewhere to stay, and there’ll always be a need for hotels. This means that you’ve got a lot of competition. So, offer something extra. It doesn’t need to be massive, like a full spa. But, it does need to be quality. Perhaps a small coffee shop serving the best coffee in the area. Be known for this on its own.

Focus on Décor

Décor is perhaps more critical in a boutique hotel than it is in a large chain, where they all look the same. Your décor should be easy on the eye, but don’t be afraid to be bold and try new things.

Find Your USP

As a boutique, you need a USP. Something that is unique and that you can become known for. Perhaps a cool bar with live local music. Food festivals offering local cuisine, guest chefs or entertainers or themed rooms.
