Creating A Pleasant Work Environment for Employees

Creating A Pleasant Work Environment for Employees FEATURED

An important element of branding is its ability to create a personality for your business. Consumers don’t want to deal with a faceless, profit-driven entity. They want to buy from a business run by genuine people. As such, businesses invest a lot of effort into creating the right persona for their brand. While this essential for your business as a whole, it’s equally important for you as the CEO. As the leader of your business, you must embody the ideals and attitudes upon which your brand is based.

Everything from the tie you wear to the tune you whistle in the office plays a role in how your employees perceive you. Surprisingly, even the way you decorate your office plays a huge part in this. Simple, functional and decorative choices speak volumes and aid in a pleasant work environment for your employees.  Successful entrepreneurs must consider all aspects of their business to ensure continued growth.

What Your Closed Door Says

Have you ever considered what your closed door says to your employees? It might say, “I’m too busy for the likes of you!”, to your employees, which is a message you do not want to convey. Shutting yourself up in your office all day can be perceived as hiding away. You can fix this by moving your office somewhere accessible and visible. Likewise, glass wall panels create a sense of openness and show employees that you’ve nothing to hide. If you have a desk, be wary of how you use it. Peering down at your employees from one side of the desk can be adversarial. Come around to them and make sure your seating is at the same level as theirs. Doing so creates a much more collaborative workspace.

Disorganized Desk = Disorganized Mind

It doesn’t matter how well organized you think you are, a mess is a mess. And your messy desk says a lot about you as an entrepreneur. To you, it may be some odd form of a filing system. However, your employees may see you disorganization as a larger problem, especially if it affects them personally. A messy desk can seriously undermine you as a leader. It can imply poor organizational skills and subliminally reduce your employees’ faith in your leadership. If keeping things neat and tidy is difficult for you, ask for help. Your employees will have more respect for you in the long run.

Standards for Cleanliness

This applies not just to your office but to the whole workspace. Low standards of cleanliness imply low standards of productivity. If your employees walk into a poorly maintained workspace it’s bound to have a negative impact on productivity.  There are also the hygiene implications that must be considered. Ensure that you, your cleaning staff and your employees all share the responsibility of keeping the workplace neat. Your workforce will know that you have high expectations which they will strive to meet every day.
