Everyone will have their own agenda when it comes to creating a company. For some, it will always be about money. For others, it’s all for love. And then for some, it’s all about your customers. Maybe you’ve thought of a company that you know will bring a lot of joy into a lot of people’s lives. Perhaps you’ve experienced an issue or you’ve encountered a problem in your everyday life that you want to remedy. Then, you’re all about the customer. You want to make sure that you can bring an awesome idea product, service, or company in the world that will be a huge benefit to your audience. And this can be so exciting. Because a lot of the time, you’re focusing on solving a problem, making people happy, or creating a community. This can often be one of the most rewarding starts of all.
But what do you do when that idea is just that – an idea? What do you do when you have no experience in business? Do you have to keep your idea in your mind, and not let it come to fruition? Certainly not! You could start a home-based business to begin with and look to grow, or you could do things on a large scale from the start. Either way, you definitely deserve to get things up and running. However, because you want to make sure that you create a company that people love, you need to focus on a few key things.
Know Who Your Customers Are
First of all, you’re going to want to identify who your customers are. You have this great idea, and you know that people are going to love it – but who are those people? Are you helping moms, business women, rural families, small businesses? Really sit down and think about the kind of people that will want your product. Ideally, you should create an image of your target customer in your mind – who they are, where they live, what their problems are, and what they need, so that you can always look to serve them.
Solve A Problem
So, you’ve worked out who your customer is, and you feel like you know them well. Now you need to work out how you’re going to solve a problem that they have with your product, service, or company. This is why you need to know what their issues and frustrations are so that your company can remedy them.
Meet Their Needs
Or maybe they don’t have a huge problem, maybe they have a need? This could be something positive. Instead of a mom feeling frustrated with how harmful their baby products are to the environment, maybe a small business would love to have healthy, balanced, nutritional meals delivered to their office? Sometimes, servicing your customer is about bettering their lives and not solving their problems. So really think objectively here.
Add Value
Next, you then need to think about how your company and your ideas can add value to your ideal customer’s life. Why would they choose you over another company or product or service? What can you do that nobody else can? Here, thinking about your unique selling proposition (USP) is going to be what sets you apart and allows your audience to fall in love with you.
Service Them
Now, you then have to make sure that you’re continuously (and consistently) serving your customer. How can you make sure that they love to come to you, time and time again? Well, giving away free information will help. Always give them free tips and advice, through a blog or customer service, and the will value you more.
Focus On Quality
Regardless of who your customer is, or what price-point you’ve set, you need to make sure that you always give quality with your product or service. Sure, that quality should be subjective, but you just have to make sure that you are continuously giving your audience what they want, at the standard they need and they will continue to buy from you.
Create A Brand
Something that will help you to do all of this, is brand building. People buy from brands, personalities – other people. Not companies. Companies seem cold. So, you need to create a brand that represents who you are as a business, your overall goals, and that will appeal to your audience in order to get traction with them.
Be Visually Appealing
Now, as much as you may think that superficial things shouldn’t come into this, they do. If you have ugly branding or a bad appearance, it will stop your audience from connecting with you. This is why your brand identity, the look of your product and even your packaging design is so important. Work with the best team and designers to make sure you get this right.
Provide Incredible Service
And there’s no excuse not to provide the best possible service that you can. If you really want your audience to be happy and to feel as if they are really valued, you have to really go the extra mile to help them, so make sure that they are happy, and to take their feedback on board and improve going forward.
Always Focus on ‘What’s In It For Me
But the most important thing for you to do is always be thinking about your customer and what they want whenever you make any kind of decision. Namely, always be able to answer the questions ‘What’s in it for me?’ from your customers perspective. From writing a blog post, to changing your manufacturing style, always make sure it’s with your customers needs in mind. Make sure that you’re servicing them, that you’re giving them a reason to engage with you and buy from you. When you can put the custom at the center of every single thing that you do (and not just pretend to), your customers will fall in love with you.
