While the benefits of working from home are obvious, there is a serious risk to productivity that should be considered. If you struggle with discipline or concentration, as it’s all too easy to lose focus. Here are three ideas to help with mastering the art of focus for entrepreneurs considering working from home.

The Space

It is essential to set up a good space that will allow you to feel comfortable and relaxed yet focused and productive.  Perfect examples are medical office designs of how to plan out your home office so it serves its purpose.  This means you’ll want to create a well organized and distraction-free environment that allows you to focus on the task at hand. In an ideal world, your home office will feel very different to your actual home. Your office should be a private area where you will not be disturbed.  In many ways, it should feel more like an annex to your home rather than part of it.

Furnish

The basic office furniture checklist tends to comprise of a desk, an ergonomic chair, a bright office lamp, and some type of file storage system. Your chair is, perhaps, the most important component, as you’ll likely be sitting in this chair upwards of eight hours a day.  You’ll want a chair with decent ergonomic support and plenty of padding.

Routine

The routine of working from home can be both a blessing and a curse.  The fact that your commute is now simply walking from your bedroom to your home office, is incredibly convenient. However, it can cause a less focused state of productivity. There is something about commuting to work, and the bright lights of the office, that helps alleviate the morning grogginess we all feel. We tend to feel awake and ready for action. This is a huge contrast to sitting with your laptop in bed, secretly wanting to do anything else but focus on work.

The most important thing in this sense is having a routine that provides structure and keeps you focused throughout the day. Try setting a strict lunch hour and get dressed for work in professional attire. Act as if you were going to the office, rather than sitting around in your underwear. Doing so helps to create more focused and productive state.
