Nathaniel Knight is the creative force and Owner of 24 Karat Bath and Body Essentials, a company that focuses on uniquely crafted fragrances and relaxing all natural skin care products. Through his personally made website, 24karatbbe.com, Nathaniel provides gifts for any occasion and something for everyone to enjoy from bath bombs to body scrubs, and more. In his recent Savvy Entrepreneur Spotlight, Nathaniel shared his journey and spoke about the days of his first business, how he stays motivated, and his belief in providing value to his customers.
The Entrepreneur Bug
While it may seem shocking to hear, Nathaniel has actually been an entrepreneur since the tender age of 6. His first noticed the entrepreneur bug when his mother would do floral arrangements in their home. She would often bring home sand bottles, which Nathaniel would decorate with various designs. One day, he took his wares to his daycare and sold them to the other parents. It was at that moment, that he knew he wanted to have his own empire of multiples businesses catering to the needs of everyday people.
Staying Motivated
Today, Nathaniel is seeing great success with his growing brand, however, he admits that he’s overcome numerous obstacles. “There are days and even weeks when I’m not motivated”, says Nathaniel. He has also struggled with moments of uncertainty when it came to his creativity and inspiration. However, like a true entrepreneur, Nathaniel has been able to find his strength and move forward with his vision.
“You can’t build an empire without pushing through”, says Nathaniel. And despite having a lack of support from his friends and family, he has overcome his obstacles with the help of his mentor and personal resolve. Encouraging words from his mentor which says, “don’t focus on the results as the results will be there…instead focus on the progress, for it’s by the process you learn”, is a message that Nathaniel tries to live by.
Providing Value
Nathaniel often describes himself as different and unique, and a person that likes to have fun. He also values being an advocate for those that do not have one. He is a self-proclaimed “jack of all trades, master of none”, and prides himself on his larger-than-life creativity. While Nathaniel admitted that he can be a big spender, he is also great when it comes to looking for deals for his products.
In 2002, Nathaniel delved head first into the all natural care products industry. While many of his competitors were selling products at a high price point, Nathaniel knew he wanted to make his products affordable. After learning the process, he launched his business with his first product, bath bombs. To his surprise, his business took off, and he realized he was able to create the products for less than his competitors.
By using retailers such as Walmart and Amazon, Nathaniel was able to grow his business without the need for loans. He continues to grow his business, by reinvesting his money back into his company.
Do It Yourself (DIY)
As a new entrepreneur, Nathaniel learned the value of doing things for himself in order to cut costs. He handles his own marketing using social media channels and even conducts his own customer research. Nathaniel’s background in retail, sales, customer service and management serve him well as he continues to manage his business on his own. He enjoys a challenge, and his “don’t take no for an answer” mentality will continue to help him achieve even more success.
