The Logistics Of Shipping Products For Entrepreneurs

When it comes to running a business, the goal is the make your customers happy and collect profits. Often times, we overlook the many connections those two areas have, especially when it comes to shipping. The decisions you make surrounding shipping products, ultimately satisfy those two objectives. Logistically speaking, there is literally a lot of moving parts when it comes to shipping. From contacting freight companies, arranging deliveries, and international shipping, there is quite a bit to learn.

Shipping products out to your customers or to other locations is a huge part of your business and supply chain. You must ensure your products are packed correctly, find ways to reduce load costs and reduce the risk of any damage to your items.

Weight

Before you think about loading up a truck you need to work with the weight capacity which is available to you. You will want to start calculating the weight of your products and determine how heavy your wooden pallets will be. This will help you work out exactly how much product you can load into trucks without it being too heavy to drive. This will also give you a great starting point and you can then move onto the next step.

Pinwheeling

Pinwheeling is a method of packing up a truck which alternates the direction of the pallets. It helps to increase the stability of your load. By alternating the direction of your pallets, you can make sure that they don’t move around during transit. This is especially helpful for long journeys.

Standard Loading

When loading a truck, you need to provide an explanation of load to truck ratio for truckers. In addition, the weight and lots of other elements and making things simple should be considered. Standard loading is all about two pallets being loaded side by side. This makes the process quicker for warehouse staff and therefore allows for better productivity. This method does, however, run a higher risk of your items moving around.

Forklift Modifications

Loading a truck for transit using a forklift can take a long time. A good way to lessen the time and increase productivity is to invest in an extension for your forklift. This will extend the forks to twice their normal length and allow you to load up two pallets at once. Doing so will significantly cut down loading time by a huge sum and making your life easier.

Weight Distribution

When loading a truck, you need to make sure that the weight is evenly distributed throughout the carriage. Never load everything on one side. This can make the truck unstable and cause issues on the road. Keep things spaced out if you don’t have a full load to move.
