Do We Communicate With Employees Properly?

Do We Communicate With Employees Properly?

We all think we are supporting our employees adequately simply because we pay them a wage. And while many businesses undertake the holistic approach to supporting their employees, the idea that communication has slipped down the ranks of importance needs discussing. We all have our own opinion on how to communicate with employees. But,  are we effective? If this is something that you haven’t thought about, now might be the time to think how you can better communicate, not just in a personal way, but in every aspect of your business dealings.

The Power Of The Open Door

An open door policy should form part of your business ethos. Open meetings can be very effective at alleviating anxieties from the perspective of the employees, but it also gives them the opportunity to voice any concerns up close and personal with you. Let this be a lesson; if you don’t actively head onto the floor and get the real opinions of your workers, you won’t know what pieces of the machine are working.

Bringing The Virtual And Hybrid Together

A lot of businesses harness the power of remote working, not just to reduce costs, but also for the benefit of the workers’ work-life balance. But remote working can give way to a feeling of being out of the loop. Employees in this situation can feel isolated and feel they are missing out on something important. But this is where virtual meetings, in conjunction with hybrid ones, are being given the attention they deserve right now. The Global AGM Trends Whitepaper is one such document aiming to address these issues and you can download the Global AGM Trends Whitepaper here for some advice on how other countries are tackling this issue. Communication in person, when compared to online or virtual contacts, are two different beasts. The right leader will know how to meld the two together.

Simplicity In Every Way

From your emails to your telephone calls, and how you speak, simplicity is the one thing we need to chase. For some reason, we still believe that to impress, we’ve got to provide a plethora of patois that is ostentatious, gaudy, and pretty much incomprehensible. The fact is, big words may sound clever, but they are a major waste of time! Get to the point, and do it in as few words as possible. Simplicity in how you communicate will make the other person feeling understood your requests, and you have made yourself very clear. Transparency in business isn’t about surrounding yourself with mystique, you need a job done, and this is why something has to be communicated as simply as possible.

Do you really communicate with our employees effectively? It can be argued that there is so many out there that don’t even make the effort. To ensure we have a thriving working environment that knows exactly what they’re doing, but also feel content, how you communicate, offline, online, over the phone, or any person, all need to be as congruent as possible.
