The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Building a Team

The Entrepreneur's Guide to Building a Team FEATURED

There are lots of entrepreneurs out there who dislike recruiting new employees. That’s because there are potentially a lot of pitfalls that they could fall into, the biggest of which is recruiting a new hire who turns out to be a bad fit for the company.

There isn’t too much to worry about when it does come to hiring, though. With a faultless recruitment process, you should find it easy to separate the good applicants from the bad. Using the following tips along the way will be extra helpful as well.

Don’t Just Skim-Read Resumes

Lots of company owners have a tendency to simply skim-read any resumes they receive. They assume that they can get to know the basics about someone by reading the document very quickly and that any of the finer details can be found out in the interview. That’s usually not how it works, though. Sure, you can get to know someone a lot better in an interview. However, if you find out that they don’t have the skills or experience you are looking for, then the interview is a big waste of time. You’ll be much better off going through each resume with a fine comb so that you can interview the strongest candidates for the job.

Know Where To Post Jobs

If you don’t place your job adverts in the right place, you might find that they don’t attract the right kinds of applicants. Ideally, post them on industry-specific job boards. So, if you are hiring for HR jobs, you should try and list them on job boards that are only for the HR industry. Thankfully, there are tons of these job boards out there. You can find plenty of great places to post your jobs so they will be seen by all the right job hunters.

Always Get References

Getting references from an applicant’s previous employers is crucial. At some point during the recruitment process, and it is important that you take the time to do so. More often than not, people get references just after the first round of interviews. This gives you the chance to speak to another employer and learn more about the applicant. Their previous employer should also flag up any potential issues that you should know about.

Go To Recruitment Fairs

It is also a great idea to represent your company at recruitment fairs. Generally speaking, most industries have these kinds of fairs and, more often than not, they take part in colleges or universities fairs to attract new and future graduates. These give you a chance to get your company’s name out there so that more people know about you as possible. And that should, hopefully, get you a few more applicants for each job position that you have.

As you can see, once you put the effort in, it can be ever so easy to attract the best employees for your team!
