It certainly is a long road from Boston, MA to Silicon Valley. However, that is the journey that Jaime Morocco took which inspired her into becoming an entrepreneur. As an online Personal Trainer and Fitness Coach, Jaime helps countless women develop nutritious eating habits and achieve their weight loss goals. In addition, she introduces holistic methods for battling blood sugar, adrenal, hormone, and gut issues, as well as exercise programs to strengthen the body. Although Jaime officially launched her business, Soul Powered Wellness, in 2015, she went all in a year later with much success. She joined us for the latest installation of the Savvy Entrepreneur Spotlight to share her story, wisdom, and healthy tips with our community.
From Boston to Silicon Valley to Boston
Imagine spending years as an undergrad and graduate student in Boston, studying entrepreneurship and dreaming of your future career. Fast forward a few years, and picture yourself working for a highly recognized digital marketing firm in Silicon Valley. After 4 years of employment and a couple of layoffs in the tech industry, you suddenly realize you’re in the work business. Knowing where her passion was ultimately sending her, Jaime took this exact same scenario and walked away from it all. She knew she would miss the influence she had gained in the field, however, her true purpose was calling her. After moving back to her hometown of Boston, she turned her passion for fitness and nutrition into a business.
On Being an Entrepreneur
Like so many of us, Jaime admits to having a type B personality. Her “organized chaos” keeps her on task, and ensures she meets her goals. Jaime works on what needs to get done that day. “Where you put your energy and where you focus is going to grow”, says Jaime. And all of her focus goes towards helping her customers reach their goals. While her methods may seem unconventional to some, they work for Jaime and her clients.
Many entrepreneurs, including those in the health and fitness industry, have a difference of opinion on how to help people. What may work for one, may not work for another. Your business style is not what is important. What matters is that you are patient and authentic with your clients. Jaime confessed that there were times that she thought she would offend people with her coaching style. However, she quickly developed her own mantra which simply states “step into your own truth”. This one statement helped her realize that she would not be able to please everyone. And that’s okay. As long as her message and process were authentic, she would reach the clients that needed her.
Achieving Work | Life Balance
Finding the balance between a social life and being an entrepreneur takes planning. Trying to accomplish everything you need to do in one day may leave you feeling resentful. Jaime suggests planning personal time by writing it down on your calendar. “You have to do the things that make you feel like you’re taking care of yourself”, says Jaime. She also recommends picking a day of the week to plan ahead. This process allows you to see the big picture, and open up even more time for personal use.
The Secret in the Sauce
Jaime dropped the secret ingredient to what helped her achieve her thriving business. Several years ago, when she was first launching her business, she decided to hire a business coach to help with the basic. After working with a few coaches, she found one that she feels comfortable with. Jaime highly recommends working with a coach, however, she stresses how important the fit must be. “There are so many coaches out there, but you have to find the person you can connect with”, she says. Her current coach helps to keep her focused on daily tasks and future goals for her business.
The passion that Jaime has for her clients is evident in how she speaks about them. She works 1 on 1 with a variety of people, all of which have varying goals and needs. Jaime even provides free consultations to ensure she is the best “fit” for her potential client. Her website and blog are full of valuable information for anyone seeking to shed some pounds, learn about nutrition and get healthy. Below are a couple of her free resources:
The Guide to Eating for Optimal Fat Loss
Jaime is a big fan of making declarations about what you want to achieve. “We get too paralyzed by fear…you just have to do it and figure it out”. Thankfully, her clients do not have to do it alone. Jaime is there for them, every step of the way!
